NICK SEXTON, MD
General Orthopaedic Surgery & Sports Medicine Specialist
ABOUT
Dr. Nick Sexton is a board-certified orthopaedic sports medicine surgeon with expertise in the arthroscopic treatment of shoulder and knee injuries. He also has a growing emphasis on regenerative orthobiologic therapies, including platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injections. Known for his patient-centered and practical approach, Dr. Sexton blends surgical expertise with biologic innovation to help patients heal and return to their active lives.
Originally from Joplin, Missouri, Dr. Sexton entered the University of Missouri – Kansas City School of Medicine’s accelerated 6-year BA/MD program right out of high school. During medical school, he joined the U.S. Army through the Health Professions Scholarship Program (HPSP), becoming a commissioned officer.
After graduating in 2003, he completed his orthopaedic residency at Tripler Army Medical Center in Honolulu, Hawaii, where he treated elite military personnel and developed advanced skills in sports injury care and minimally invasive joint procedures. He was later stationed at Ft. Wainwright near Fairbanks, Alaska, and deployed with Task Force 115th Combat Support Hospital to Afghanistan, gaining invaluable trauma experience during his time in Helmand Province.
After his military service, Dr. Sexton spent over a decade practicing in Roseburg, Oregon, where he served as a team physician for multiple high schools and Umpqua Community College. He continued to focus on joint preservation and soft tissue conditions in both athletic and active patient populations.
Dr. Sexton is board-certified in Orthopaedic Surgery with subspecialty certification in Orthopaedic Sports Medicine. He is a Fellow of the Arthroscopy Association of North America (FAANA), reflecting his expertise in arthroscopic techniques.
He integrates the latest orthobiologic treatments into patient care, including:
- Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) injections to reduce inflammation, support tissue healing, and delay surgery for tendonitis, arthritis, and ligament injuries
- Regenerative joint preservation strategies to maintain joint function non-surgically
- Personalized biologic therapy plans that combine conservative treatments with advanced biologics
Dr. Sexton tailors every treatment plan to the individual—whether it involves surgery, physical therapy, bracing, or regenerative options like PRP. His guiding principle is to offer the least invasive, most effective approach to restore function and relieve pain.
Outside of medicine, Dr. Sexton enjoys time with his wife Cynthia and their two children. An avid outdoorsman, he loves fishing, hunting, boating, traveling, and playing tennis with his family.
