During medical school, he joined the U.S. Army through the Health Professions Scholarship Program (HPSP), becoming a commissioned officer.
After graduating in 2003, he completed his orthopaedic residency at Tripler Army Medical Center in Honolulu, Hawaii, where he treated elite military personnel and developed advanced skills in sports injury care and minimally invasive joint procedures. He was later stationed at Ft. Wainwright near Fairbanks, Alaska, and deployed with Task Force 115th Combat Support Hospital to Afghanistan, gaining invaluable trauma experience during his time in Helmand Province.
After his military service, Dr. Sexton spent over a decade practicing in Roseburg, Oregon, where he served as a team physician for multiple high schools and Umpqua Community College.
